The Purdoms
Wayne and Connie both grew up in Selah, WA, just a few miles north of Yakima and graduated in the same class from Selah High School. After high school, Wayne attended both Yakima Valley Community College and Pacific Lutheran University, graduating with a degree in Political Science. Connie graduated at the same time from Central Washington University with a degree in Psychology.
After college, both moved back to Yakima for job opportunities and ended-up falling in love and getting married. Connie worked for a while in a local girls’ group-home and then for Yakima Valley Farm Workers Mental Health. Upon the birth of Cierra Joy, Connie decided that it would be a full-time job taking care of Cierra AND Wayne… so she decided to stay home for good. Meanwhile, Wayne worked for Quest International, a niche-marketing company, and volunteered lots of time at the newly planted Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Yakima or VCFY (planted in 1991 by Harvey & Judy Hamm).
In 1997, VCFY’s Senior Pastor, Harvey Hamm, his wife Judy and a team of people left Yakima to plant a new Vineyard Church in Puyallup, WA. At their leaving, Wayne was tapped as the new Sr. Pastor and entered full-time ministry. Along with his good friends the Morris’ and Bleharts’, the small team of people left behind to care for the church navigated through 3 building changes in 2 years, surfed through financial upheavals and an ever-shifting congregation. Things stabilized in 2001 when the church found a new permanent home in the former United Christian Church, built in the early 1900’s.
After pastoring the Yakima Vineyard for 7 years, the Purdoms felt compelled to plant a new Vineyard Church in Everett, WA. In order to facilitate the new plant (and make some money), Wayne took a full-time job with Wilkinson 1031, a real estate investment firm located in Yakima. He officially resigned from VCF Yakima in June of ’05 and the church was turned over to a group of leaders charged with caring for the church while it searched for a new Senior Pastor. It was announced in December of ’05 that Jimmy John Morris, Wayne’s Associate/Worship Pastor, was offered the job.
The Purdoms purchased a home in Marysville, WA and moved in over the summer of '06. Wayne will continue to work for Wilkinson 1031 out of their home for the foreseeable future.
Wayne and Connie have two wonderful daughters, Cierra Joy (13) and Alisha Anne (9).
